Biography - Part 1

Part 1 -First there was nothing…… and then there was ODM (the same thing just with a different name)

There has been laughter, tears, boys, girls and fruit but here is the history of the band that is now One Drunk Morning………….

Back in the day when Ross had no pubes and thought he had a record label because he owned a 4 track he used to record acoustic music and spread it around like a disease.

Whilst all this was going on a band named pickle weasel had just played their first gig. The only problem being they all hated each other and they were shit. The drummer Gary wanted a band that didn’t smell of wee so when pickle weasel split up he robbed up (mush) their place at bass connections, for a new band.

Anyway back on the internet Gary heard Ross' acoustic stuff and after speaking to him decided he wanted him to be in this new band. Ross then dragged in various other members like Rob and Matt, though Matt didn’t make it to the first practice, got fired and they got Leo instead.

So ODM then a 4 piece (Gary, Leo, Ross and Rob) got to work, Ross writing the songs and bullying them. With 5 weeks to get a half an hour set ready the band decided they were gay and needed some brass. So Rob and Leo set about bullying Linden to play his bone but he was a wanker and said no. They then started on Josh who was much weaker and said yes.

Time came for the city hall gig and ODM went on and played as well as they could (which was rubbish) and were like statues that couldn’t move for fear of death.

The band then decided that it was time to knuckle down and really get ODM going. They decided to get the now lonely Josh some brass friends and did so by smuggling Em in to play sax. This was a trčs good move as now it didn’t have to be kept a secret that the guys got boners in practices. Then Linden realized how much of a fool he was for refusing to join ODM earlier and decided to join them playing trumpet instead of trombone. Now the stage was set and the band were complete, they got to work on new material and making the band good in general. They had a reputation to re-build and they were about to do it in style……………………………

Biography - Part 2

And so with this new awesome line-up, complete with full brass section, ODM set out to play a gig in depths of the country at Shrewton. Although their sound was raw and unpolished most agreed they had a great vibe and atmosphere, getting everyone up on their feet, skanking away. After a series of gigs around about Salisbury Gary decided he wanted to spend more time with his other band, Skinny and the Gaffas. ODM said goodbye and promptly hired Connor, one week before their next gig. A very busy practice saw Connor learn the 6 songs we had and play them without fault at Spires Bar, one of the most cramped venues ever.

With Connor, ODM started learning great new material and re-vamping their old stuff at the same time to make it sleeker and better. As part of this, in January ODM recorded their demo EP “No More Payoffs” with Linden’s dad. Reviews of the 3 track cd confirmed that the energy was there but not the great musical backing.

While still writing new material, god we do that a lot and never get anywhere, ODM entered Bass Connection’s Battle of the Bands. After hearing that marks were given for the presentation of the band, ODM promptly all turned up wearing sharp black and white suits and proceeded to get to the final where they came in second to the all-girl Bari Sax playing Vendetta. At this time, Em realised she wanted a Bari sax with all of her heart and soul and so went searching high and low for one.

Linden now realised how he had been playing the wrong instrument all along and so reverted to his first instrument, the trombone. Also, after a long summer with little activity on the ODM front, Connor had realised he didn’t like ska and so left ODM for Leaves Have Fallen after an awesome gig at Salisbury Arts Centre. ODM were distraught. Where could they find another drummer who could learn their 8/9 songs quickly so they could write some more? After trialling several drummers and basically bumming around for a bit, drummer no. 3 Tim stepped into the breach, playing his first gig in Eastleigh at EM fest, which was awesome.

Now with a new drummer in stock ODM started writing like they’ve never written before, even managing to play 12 songs when headlining the Arts Centre and Spires Bar. With new songs appearing before their very eyes, ODM steps forward into a bright future and with an album recording on the horizon, things are looking good for Salisbury’s Ska Septet.
